US Imposes New Sanctions on Iranian Petroleum Trade

(MENAFN) The US State Department announced Friday a new wave of sanctions targeting companies, individuals, and ships linked to Iran’s petroleum and petrochemical trade, according to reports.

The measures affect 15 entities, two people, and 14 vessels connected to Iran’s so-called “shadow fleet.”

“These targets have generated revenue that the regime uses to conduct its malign activities,” the department said. Officials noted that instead of improving conditions for its population and crumbling infrastructure, Tehran “continues to fund destabilizing activities around the world and step up its repression inside Iran.”

The statement warned that the US will maintain pressure as long as Iran seeks to evade sanctions to secure oil and petrochemical income that supports “oppressive behavior, terrorist activities and proxies.”
