Interior Minister Says Venezuela Ready to Confront Foreign Threats

(MENAFN) Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello declared on Tuesday that the nation stands fully prepared to confront any foreign threats, portraying a united front between civilians and the military in defense of the homeland.

Addressing security forces in the northern state of Yaracuy, Cabello stated, "We have been prepared for any attempted attack against our country. Venezuela is a land of historic warriors. The people and the military must go hand in hand."

Highlighting public sentiment, Cabello referenced a recent poll showing that 97 percent of Venezuelans reject any "violent action" against their country.

He further stressed the vital role of community militia units within each "peace quadrant," urging the establishment of teams dedicated to civil protection and local mobilization in the event of an attack.

Tensions between Caracas and Washington have intensified recently, as the U.S. has deployed multiple warships near Venezuelan waters, citing efforts to combat Latin American drug cartels.

In response to what it describes as foreign aggression, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro signed a decree earlier this week declaring a "State of External Commotion," granting himself expanded security powers to counter potential military incursions.
