Ukrainian Minister, U.S. Envoy Hold Talks on Patriot Systems
(MENAFN) Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed on Friday that he held talks with US Presidential Envoy Keith Kellogg in Kyiv to address the introduction of new Patriot missile defense systems and coordinated responses to recent Russian drone incursions into Polish airspace.
During the meeting, Shmyhal briefed Kellogg on the outcomes of the latest Ukraine Defense Contact Group session, emphasizing the “strong signals of support” from Ukraine’s international partners.
“We discussed the possibility of Ukraine’s Defense Forces receiving new Patriot systems and ammunition for them,” Shmyhal stated on X, adding that Ukraine also shared critical battlefield intelligence and details regarding “Russia’s provocation against Poland.”
Shmyhal emphasized that such actions pose a direct threat to NATO’s collective security, stressing the need for a unified and decisive response from the alliance. He also called for stronger sanctions on Russia due to the growing tensions.
The Ukrainian minister also expressed his appreciation for the continued backing from Washington and thanked Kellogg for “his personal efforts to bring closer a just and lasting peace.”
In related developments, Poland has imposed air traffic restrictions along its eastern borders with Belarus and Ukraine, following multiple incidents involving suspected Russian drones. Warsaw had previously downed these drones with support from NATO allies, intensifying concerns about the escalating threat to regional security
