Wihdat defeats Jazeera in sixth round of CFI Jordan Pro League
(MENAFN) In the sixth round of the CFI Jordan Pro League, Wihdat returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 victory over Jazeera at Amman International Stadium on Friday.
Wihdat started the match aggressively, creating several opportunities, while Jazeera responded with a couple of threatening chances that were denied by a resilient Wihdat defense. The first half’s highlight came in the 36th minute, when Wihdat saw three shots blocked, one of which hit the crossbar. Just two minutes later, Jazeera almost stunned the hosts as Moses Twum’s header also struck the woodwork.
The second half maintained a high tempo. Wihdat appealed for a penalty around the hour mark, but the referee allowed play to continue. Soon after, Jazeera’s Mahmoud Jamal missed a clear chance, failing to connect with a low cross in front of goal.
The breakthrough arrived in the 72nd minute when Mohammed Mawaly scored what proved to be the decisive goal. Despite creating three more clear-cut opportunities, Wihdat could not extend their lead but held on to secure the win. The victory lifted them to 10 points in fifth place, while Jazeera remained on seven points in sixth.
The headline clash of the round took place at Hassan Stadium in Irbid, where reigning champions Hussein hosted Faisali. Hussein dominated the opening half and opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Odeh Fakhouri delicately chipped the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation. Faisali responded in the second half, eventually leveling the score in the 59th minute through Ahmad Ersan’s penalty. The match ended 1-1, with Faisali moving up to second place on 13 points and Hussein dropping to third with 12.
Elsewhere, Salt claimed a 2-0 win over Ahli to rise to fourth place with 11 points, while Ahli remained in eighth on four points.
The round will conclude with two fixtures: leaders Ramtha facing Sama Sarhan, and Baqaa taking on Shabab Urdun.
