South Korean Leader Orders Full Probe into Military Blast

(MENAFN) South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has ordered a comprehensive investigation into a military training explosion that injured 10 soldiers, according to media.

The blast occurred Wednesday at an artillery unit in Paju, a northwestern city near the border with North Korea. The explosion happened during a training session involving a practice shell designed to simulate an explosive sound.

In a statement posted Thursday on the U.S. social media platform Facebook, Lee emphasized the need for immediate accountability and safety reforms.

"Military authorities should conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause and prepare preventive measures to ensure such incidents do not happen to service members again," Lee wrote.

The president further pledged that his administration would take decisive steps to safeguard military personnel.

"The government will make every effort to prevent a recurrence and strengthen safety measures," he added.

No fatalities were reported, but the incident has raised fresh concerns over safety protocols within South Korea's armed forces.
