BYD Seeks Broader Expansion in Indian Market
According to the outlet, BYD’s managing director for India, Ketsu Zhang, is expected to visit the South Asian country within the next couple of months, citing sources acquainted with the matter.
The Shenzhen-headquartered automaker has already begun processing visas for its senior executives and technical staff.
This step will enable the company to restart training programs and continue servicing its machinery, the report noted.
Following the downturn in relations between New Delhi and Beijing in 2020, India imposed strict visa restrictions on Chinese nationals.
These measures are now being gradually loosened as the two Asian powers seek to enhance cooperation.
The EV manufacturer is also preparing to secure regulatory approval in India for roadworthiness certification. Such clearance would permit the company to surpass the present yearly import limit of 2,500 vehicles, the news outlet reported.
During his anticipated trip, Zhang is slated to engage with central government officials in New Delhi.
Some engineers have already received approval to travel, while executives at the vice-president level are also expected to follow soon, the report added.
This progress comes shortly after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin at the end of August.
The two leaders consented to work on stabilizing bilateral relations, marking the result of months of diplomatic efforts to repair ties strained by persistent border frictions.
