Dismissed FBI Leaders Sue Bureau
The complaint, filed by ex-Acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll, senior Washington, DC field officer Steven Jensen, and Las Vegas field office chief Spencer Evans, contends that Trump’s administration orchestrated what they described as a "campaign of retribution" in which they were penalized for failing "to demonstrate sufficient political loyalty."
According to the lawsuit, FBI Director Kash Patel willfully broke the law when he terminated the senior figures at the request of Trump’s White House, but proceeded with the dismissals to safeguard his own position.
The filing further states that the three complainants "were the targets of Defendants’ retribution for their refusals to politicize the FBI, and they seek to vindicate their constitutional and legal rights."
The case references several exchanges between the senior officials, Patel, and other Trump administration representatives as evidence, claiming these interactions demonstrate that the White House singled out FBI personnel for political punishment.
One portion of the 68-page complaint recounts a conversation between Driscoll and Patel, stating: "Patel explained that he had to fire the people his superiors told him to fire, because his ability to keep his own job depended on the removal of the agents who worked on cases involving the President. Patel explained that there was nothing he or Driscoll could do to stop these or any other firings, because 'the FBI tried to put the President in jail and he hasn’t forgotten it.'"
