Egypt’s leader discusses nuclear with Iran
Sisi conveyed his message during a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, according to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency. The statement highlighted that Sisi underlined the importance of efforts “to de-escalate and contain tensions in light of escalation in the region, which calls for intensified joint action to enhance stability and confront attempts to undermine peace and security.” He also stressed that constructive dialogue is crucial to achieving a peaceful resolution that safeguards regional security and prevents further escalation.
Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to Sisi for his efforts in fostering closer cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), commending Egypt’s role in facilitating constructive talks. The Iranian president noted that these efforts culminated in the agreement signed in Cairo on Tuesday, which restored collaboration between Iran and the IAEA after months of Egyptian-mediated negotiations.
Earlier, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations confirmed that Tehran had resumed discussions with the UN nuclear watchdog.
