Polish PM doesn’t regret saying Trump is Russian asset
(MENAFN) Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has reaffirmed his previous claim that US President Donald Trump has ties to Russia, reversing an earlier denial.
During a pre-election event in 2023, Tusk asserted that “Trump’s links with Russian secret services are irrefutable.” However, in November, just days after Trump won a second term in 2024, Tusk appeared to retract the statement.
“I do not regret any words I have spoken in my life,” Tusk said at a press conference in Lomza, Poland, when asked about his earlier remarks.
He added, “President Trump is a very demanding and difficult partner. Not just from my point of view, we all know it.”
When questioned about the allegations last November, Tusk initially sidestepped the topic and later claimed he “had never made such suggestions.”
Accusations of Russian connections first emerged in 2016 after Trump defeated Hillary Clinton. Moscow has consistently denied these claims, attributing them to political infighting. A recent investigation by the US president reportedly uncovered a coordinated attempt by senior Obama-era officials and groups tied to billionaire George Soros to undermine Trump’s 2016 victory.
Trump met with Polish President Karol Nawrocki at the White House this week. Since his election just over a month ago, Nawrocki, a right-wing figure, has clashed with pro-EU Tusk on several issues, vetoing multiple government bills. During the meeting with Trump, Nawrocki reportedly broke protocol by not inviting Poland’s ambassador or any Foreign Ministry officials.
