European, NATO Leaders Await Joining Trump, Zelenskyy Talks
The gathering will include French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
According to the German administration, the purpose of the visit is to facilitate an "information exchange" in light of Trump's recent dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which took place in Alaska.
"Chancellor Merz will discuss the current peace efforts with the heads of state and government and underscore Germany's interest in a swift peace agreement," declared government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius in an official statement.
Kornelius noted that the dialogue will center around issues such as defense assurances, territorial matters, continued backing of Ukraine’s military efforts, and maintaining pressure on Russia through sanctions.
